Phone: (0)761 203-2106 Research profileResearch priorities are the Codex of Canon Law and the particular law belonging to it. Special attention is given to the judicial structure of the Catholic Church (above all: the office of the diocesan bishop, the relation between the universal church and the particular churches), to the teaching function of the Church and to Marriage Law. Moreover selected aspects of the legal relation between Church and State are at the centre of interest: common affairs of Church and State in the sector of education (religious education at state schools, theological departments at public universities) and the meaning of religious freedom guaranteed by basic rights in an increasingly pluralistic society. The lessons in Canon Law aim at an understanding of the structure of the Catholic Church as it really is. Central topics are: theological foundations and fundamental technical terms of Canon Law, the legal structure of the Church, the teaching function of the Church, the sanctifying function of the Church, Church and State. In addition students can take part in facultative lessons referring to the history of Canon Law and to the law of the Eastern Catholic Churches.
